How to read a diamond report

Every Rion center stone is independently graded by IGI or GIA before it ships. The report is yours, attached to the stone for life.

Who grades what

GIA (Gemological Institute of America) is the most conservative grader in the industry and the historic standard for mined diamonds. IGI (International Gemological Institute) is the dominant grader for lab-grown stones and uses equivalent methodology. We use both. Both are accepted globally for insurance and resale.

What's on the report

  • Origin — laboratory-grown, plus growth method (HPHT or CVD)
  • Shape & cutting style
  • Measurements in millimeters and total depth %
  • Carat weight to two decimal places
  • Color, clarity, cut, polish, symmetry grades
  • Fluorescence — most stones are None or Faint
  • An inclusion plot mapping internal characteristics
  • A report number that is laser-inscribed on the diamond's girdle

How to verify it's real

Every report has a public lookup URL on the grader's website. Enter the report number; the full report appears, byte-for-byte identical to the PDF we sent you. If those don't match, the stone doesn't ship.

Our policy

You'll receive the report before you're asked to pay the balance. The center stone arrives with its laser-inscribed report number visible under 10x magnification. If you ever want a second opinion, we'll cover the cost of re-grading at either lab.
